Road bars are of a different diameter than flat bars.

Of course, you wouldn’t have brakes while on the drop bars…

I have a Trek 7000 hybrid, sort of similar to this, and I have a 46cm set of drop handlebars that I want to put on it, but I don’t want to spend a ton of money. Do I really need new shifters and brake levers If so, I guess I’ll try to find some on Craigslist that are used…
